Aces High Training Films

Notes about the Film Viewer within the Aces High Software:

AA return fire does not show in some Aces High film. They are best viewed using F4, F5 and F8, then pan around to the back of the aircraft using the keypad. They are also best viewed if TRAILS are turned on within the film interface. Aces High films are also known to be alittle 'jerky' when the pilot rolls the plane or does evasive maneuvers. Tracers from enemy bombers will not be seen. Actual destruction of aircraft will sometimes not be seen, but report of the kill IS shown in the text buffer.

AA supression using the F4U-1D as a weapons platform:

File size approx. 375 kb

https://ripsnort60.tripod.com/AAsupression.zip

Background:

Film depicting on how to suppress AA at a medium sized field as a single player. Weapons platform included (2) 500 LB General purpose bombs, 8 Rockets, and fuel status at time of engagement is 50%.

What you will see:

Care was taken to climb out to at least 8000 feet in between each pass. You will note that 2 rockets are used each pass for AA for insurance. This is a conservative approach to eliminating AA. You'll also note that I drop altitude alittle more each pass as the AA's are eliminated. I tend to work the 'edges' first, avoiding flying over existing AA after destroying one. you'll notice in the text box that there is a 'trainee' in the cockpit with me, thus the text conversation.

What you WON'T see:

AAA return fire will not be seen. Actual impact of projectile or rocket explosion will not be seen but destruction of target will be seen.

Aircraft taking off and landing procedures:

File size approx. 175kb

Background:

Film showing proper heavy load Carrier launch and trapping, using the F4U as an aerial platform. Narrated in text buffer.

B17 attack-Mano vs Mano(Single B17 vs single FW190) :

File size approx. 275kb

https://ripsnort60.tripod.com/B17attack.zip

Background:

Film showing one method of slashing attacks on a B17. To attack a B17 alone in WW2 was considered suicidal, after all, you had 10 or more .50 cal guns pointed at you...so it is preferably and more survivable if you have a wingman. In Aces High, we don't always have that luxury, so these are methods that I choose to shoot down bombers.

What you will see:

Multiple slashing attacks and patience. Only one "ping" was encountered. No fewer than 5 slashes were made to show survivability on a buff attack. Note the angle of attack, frontal quarter, from a high 10-11 o'clock position. In this way, the bomber can only train a max of 3 guns (top turret, and side gunner) on you as you slash across and make his tracking difficult. The secret (if there IS one...) to killing B17's is to have the right tool for the right job...in this film I use a FW190A8 with convergence set to 475.

What you WON'T see:

Tracers from the enemy B17 will not be seen in training films. Actual destruction of B17 is not seen in the end, but text buffer shows kill (these are known film bugs) You WILL hear the one ping I took. Thanks to Attilla, a dedicated bomber guy, to help me in making this film.

Vehicle Field attack using the F4U

File size approx. 265kb

https://ripsnort60.tripod.com/Vfield_Attack.zip

Background:

Film of a conservative approach to attacking a Vehicle field . Aerial Platform used in this film is an F4U Corsair.

What you will see:

Attack is made from 10,000 feet above altitude of vehicle field. This is a conservative approach to attacking a Vehicle field to prepare it for capture. Note: You do not have to take out Vehicle Hangar for field capture, however, you risk a spawning vehicle if you do not take it out before a C47 arrives.

What you WON'T see:

Tracers from the Vehicle field may not be seen. Rocket impact areas will not be seen, but destruction will be seen. Best viewed with trails on and an F4 view.
